David Sowells

David joined BPPA as a Director in 2004, becoming Managing Director in January 2007. He has enjoyed a diverse career in politics, business and public affairs.

David was a member of the Labour Party’s economic secretariat for three years in opposition. He then entered public affairs in 1995 with the Communications Group. He made the move in-house in 1997 as the Director of Public Affairs for CNN. During his time with the broadcaster, David was also the Vice-Chairman of the Satellite and Cable Broadcasters Group, which undertook advocacy on behalf of the industry. He was briefly reunited with current BPPA Chairman Peter Bingle at GPC Communications in 2000, before he took up a position as Director of Public Affairs at AOL Time Warner in 2001. In 2002 David took a hiatus from public affairs to enter the world of business as the Head of Operations for John Mills Ltd. He left JML for BPPA in 2004.

As Managing Director, David oversees the day to day operation of BPPA and personally advises a wide portfolio of clients. As a veteran of both business and politics, David is passionate about helping business talk to Government and vice versa. His own career away from public affairs has informed his knowledge of business priorities and the realities of day to day operations. He is a powerful advocate of the value of public affairs and of the need for business to act smarter in its dealings with Westminster and Whitehall.
