Giles joined BPPA in November 2004, having previously worked in academic publishing and as a researcher for a financial markets magazine. He has a particular interest in energy security and the environmental challenges facing the energy, extractive industries and transport sectors. He works with one of the world’s largest multi-utilities companies, preparing briefings on government and Opposition energy policy, and advising on energy supply and resilience in the context of broader security policy.
He also works with a global mining company, providing briefing and political intelligence to inform the company’s government relations strategy and providing briefings for senior management in advance of ministerial meetings.
Giles sits on Chime Communications plc’s climate change committee and advises BPPA on its own carbon neutral policy. He writes on housing and environmental policy for a housing magazine.
Giles also has an interest in the relationship between the City of London and political institutions. His experience includes: tracking regulatory developments in the financial services sector, briefing government officials and parliamentarians at UK and EU level on the economic value of investment institutions, and advising private equity investors on their response to political and public scrutiny of the industry.
Giles is becoming increasingly involved in BPPA’s further expansion of its EU capabilities, tracking EU policy and regulatory issues.
