ASDA Retail Development appoints Bell Pottinger Public Affairs

23 January 2008

ASDA has appointed Bell Pottinger Public Affairs to support its expansion plans for London and the Thames Gateway. BPPA’s remit is to advise on all aspects of ASDA’s expansion plans, including a full political engagement strategy and support for individual planning applications and store openings. BPPA is already retained by ASDA to provide strategic public affairs advice on all aspects of the business. This relationship will not change.

Bell Pottinger Public Affairs Chairman, Peter Bingle, said:

“We are delighted that ASDA has decided to build on our existing successful relationship to take advantage of our expertise in planning and community engagement. The Thames Gateway presents a huge opportunity for investors but navigating the complex delivery structures requires expert advice. Our consultants have extensive experience in running political and community engagement programmes for major planning clients including St. James and First Base in London and the south east.”

The ASDA account will be headed by BPPA Chairman Peter Bingle, supported by Account Director Chris Parr, former Private Secretary to Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott.

ASDA’s Head of Property Communications, Jonathan Refoy said:

“After an extensive pitch process, BPPA have been appointed to provide communications support for our investment plans in London and the Thames Gateway. Their experience and expertise in the sector shone through and we are all looking forward to working with Peter and the team in the year ahead.”
